3. Petaling Street - Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown

4. Batu Caves

Holy Temple Of The Hindus

One of the places to visit in Kuala Lumpur around January would be the Batu Caves. It is located just 13 km north of Kuala Lumpur. It is a limestone hill with a series of caves and cave temples. The limestone around the caves is said to be around 400 million years old.

Batu Caves is a sacred place of worship for the Hindus. Rising almost 100m above the ground Batu Caves temple complex consists of three main caves and a few smaller ones. The biggest cave is called the temple cave and has a 100m high ceiling. The Hindus make an annual pilgrimage to the caves around January climbing 272 rock stairs to reach the main cave to pay homage to their deity Lord Murugan at a festival called Thaipusam. Standing at 42.7 meters it is the world's largest statue of Lord Murugan.

Thousands of devotees throng the caves with many doing some kind of penance by carrying a "kavadi". "Kavadis" are large, brightly decorated frameworks usually with hooks and skewers used to pierce the cheeks, tongues and skin.




5. Taman Tasik Perdana or The Lake Gardens.

Taman Tasik Perdana or fondly known as the Lake Garden, is the oldest and the most popular park in Kuala Lumpur. Its main attraction is the artificial lake surrounded by lush greenery in 227 acres parkland that provides a refreshing ambiance.

After a hard day at work, locals like to come here to take a breath of fresh air, strolling along the carefully plannned paths or rowing on the lake. The park also has jogging tracks and exercise stations, as well as children's playground.

Attractions in the park include a Bird Park, Butterfly Park, Deer Park and an Orchid Garden, which are all reachable either by foot or by regular shuttle buses. From the gardens, you may also visit other attractions such as the National Monument, Parliament House and the Planetarium.

KL Bird ParkThe KL Bird park is the place to visit in Kuala Lumpur for those who love to see birds in its natural habitat. Located 10 mins from the city center, theis home to more than 2000 birds.

It is divided into 4 zones - Zone 1 and 2 are the free-flight zones while Zone 3 is the Hornbill Park and Zone 4 has birds in cages and mini aviaries.

Visitors will enjoy watching a wide variety of birds from parrots, flamingoes, owls, horn bills, etc in a natural environment.

The free-flight walk-in aviary is home to more than 60 species of birds flying and living together in harmony.

See the beautiful peacock with its 5 feet colorful train. It is also home to the Crowned Pigeon, the largest pigeon species in the world with a body as large as a turkey. You can also observe storks in their nesting colonies.

The Hornbill Park showcases the Malaysian rainforest with its lush evergreen trees some as tall as a 10-storey building. It is home to the Rhinoceros Hornbill, one of the largest Hornbill species in the world. The hornbill stands out with its shiny ebony black plumage, huge bill and upward curved casque in striking colors of red, yellow and orange. Other smaller hornbills, doves and guinea fowls share the same habitation.

The Waterfall Aviary, located in Zone 4 is a mini aviary. With lush green trees and a 30 foot tall man-made waterfall it is also the sanctuary of the Milky Stork, one of the highly protected and vulnerable species in Malaysia.

Butterfly Park

Butterflies In Its Natural Habitat


Visitors can see more than 120 exotic varieties of butterflies here with a total number of butterflies exceeding 6000. With so many butterflies, it is difficult to distinguish flowers from butterflies. The garden is dotted with more than 15, 000 plants. 

These plants make a tropical rain forest right within the ultra modern city of Kuala Lumpur. A hydro pond within this park enhances the beauty of it. It is surrounded with attractive limestone path and a gazebo.

Deer Park



Deer Park is a 2 hectare enclosure, located in the undulating slopes and valley of Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens. From here you'll will be able to see the beautifully landscaped ornamental lake and the popular jogging track that goes around the lake.
Inside the deer park you will be able to see many species of deer. The most interesting for would probably be the mouse deer or kancil. It looks more like a giant rat than and deer.

Orchid Garden


Orchid Garden, together with the joining Hibiscus Garden, is a relaxing place to enjoy exotic tropical blooms amid lush, landscaped gardens.






Visitors can see more than 500 species of hibiscus in this garden. These flowers possess a wide range of colors, shapes and sizes. They differ in the number of petals and sizes. The visitors will find it difficult to store these beautiful images in their eyes.

A new structure is added into the garden recently. The building comprises of five wings that represent the 5 petals of the hibiscus flower. Each of the wings houses a different variety of hibiscus.

Visitors can buy hibiscus related handicrafts and products in each of the wings. This is an ultimate place to relax and unwind one self.
